Snake plants (Dracaena trifasciata) are popular houseplants with robust, long, succulent, grass-like foliage and low maintenance. They tolerate neglect, making them ideal for newbie houseplant collectors.

Sansevieria trifasciata was its botanical name until 2017, and many publications still use it. The plants are also called mother-in-law's tongue, golden bird's nest, and viper's bowstring hemp.

Snake plants are mildly to moderately poisonous to dogs. Saponins cause hypersalivation, pupil dilation, and gastrointestinal upset.
