How to Hang Plants From the Ceiling Without Holes

Ceilings are ideal for indoor plants, which brighten a space. To support large pots and plants, screw a hook into a ceiling joist or a toggle screw into drywall. Better yet, screw a J-hook into or suspend an S-hook from ceiling beams.

These hooks function because of rare-earth, or neodymium, magnets with 100-pound capacity. The magnet must be mounted directly to a clean metal surface to reach full weight capacity.

Ceiling metal attachment points can be difficult to find. Look closely for metal plates, bolts, fasteners, and braces.

Another attachment method is painted drywall screws. Find screws by sliding the magnet across the ceiling. Small screw heads reduce weight capacity, so be careful.

41-72-inch shower tension rods are standard. Product weight capacities vary from 10 to 30 pounds. Extra-long room divider curtain tension rods are 120 or 160 inches. Ten to thirteen feet—enough to span a modest room.
