The 10 Ugliest Places You'll Never Want to Visit

GUATEMALA CITY, GUATEMALA

The center of a beautiful country is this dirty, dangerous city. Most of the buildings look like they are about to fall down, making it look more like a slum than a major city.

MEXICO CITY, MEXICO

It's one of the most dangerous towns in the world right now, but it wouldn't be a very inviting place to live even if it wasn't dangerous. It's one of the dirtiest places in the world, and there isn't much to see.

AMMAN, JORDAN

Your trip should start and end in the capital of the country with Petra, one of the world's most intriguing historical monuments. Unless you like dusty, chaotic streets and unsightly, crumbling buildings.

CARACAS, VENEZUELA

Venezuela's capital is ugly, yet its women are recognized for their plastic surgery-enhanced bodies and international beauty contest success. In addition to shantytowns, its major areas lack planning and elegance.

LUANDA, ANGOLA

As Africa's economic center, it's booming, but let's hope the new construction develops something more lovely than ugly apartment buildings cluttering the skyline of the world's most expensive city.

CHISINAU, MOLDOVA

Moldavia's capital is ugly. The industrial city is largely unsightly Soviet-style housing structures that are crumbling and unclean. Eastern Europe has numerous ugly Soviet-era cities, but a capital should be better.

HOUSTON, USA

Houston, you're ugly. It's the fourth-most populous US city, but the draw isn't scenery. There are numerous other ugly American cities (American cities aren't pretty).

DETROIT, USA

Honestly, Detroit is ugly. Its population dropped 25% in a decade because of its aesthetics and quality of life. One of the nation's highest crime rates may have contributed, but this is a grimy, decrepit brick, concrete, and glass metropolis. Not pretty.

SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL

Nature seems to have ignored Brazil's other major city in favor of Rio. São Paulo, known for its restaurants and shopping, is a concrete jungle despite its popularity.

LOS ANGELES, USA

Congested highways make a city unattractive, but there's little to see as you walk down the street (if anyone walks -- this is one of the world's least pedestrian-friendly cities).
