How to Attract Hummingbirds: 10 Expert Tips

Bright red tubular flowers are optimal for hummingbird pollination in North America. Hummingbirds immediately investigate red objects.

Red flowers definitely attract hummingbirds. Native nectar plants provide shelter and attract protein-rich insects for hummingbirds.

The Cornell Lab of Ornithology's postdoctoral colleague Anusha Shankar explains why these majestic birds are continually hunting.

Many ectar feeders attract these flyers. While some firms sell hummingbird nectar, you may easily produce your own. 1 part white sugar to 4 parts water, stir well.

Be a responsible hummingbird admirer after learning how to attract them. Mouldy sugar water is hazardous to birds.

Keep feeders clean and refill the mixture every three or four days, more often in hot weather. Clean the feeder and refresh nectar quickly if the mixture clouds.

Feed hummers year-round in regions where they live. Putting feeders in a visible area will help attract hummingbirds, which are continually hunting for food.

Even while feeders provide endless nectar, hummingbirds instinctively protect their food sources since they are used to feeding at flowers, which provide limited nectar.

Sometimes backyard birders worry when the male of a pair of hummingbirds disappears, leaving a mother. Typical hummingbird behaviour.
